Welcome To WorldSwap - Update!

Journal Entry: Fri Feb 2, 2007, 1:13 AM
UPDATE: 2nd February, 2007

- Right here's a wee update on how this is going! Response seems pretty good to the idea of WorldSwap so far! I found out that there is a similar-ish-but-not-really project on dA which is *TheSketchbookProject, I sent a note to them regarding being affiliates as 1) I thought people visiting here may be interested in them and vice versa and 2) I didn't want to step on any toes as this is a similar project to theirs and wanted them to know that I'm not trying to be cheeky by setting this up.

- ALSO, I have just now sent out swap match addresses to people that submitted their addresses during january. I was meant to do it last night but found that when I came to dA it was in read only mode! Bugger! Fingers crossed all will go well, we have ten deviants involved so far which I know isn't alot but I am very happy with as it's easy to handle and enough people to have some wicked fun doing it!

- I'd also like to point out that the idea of WorldSwap is not to gain popularity, exposure or start a huge raging club or anything, it's just here as a resource for people like myself who enjoy this sort of thing! I'm saying this to let people know that by me contacting other clubs (not that I have or am intending to - apart from *TheSketchbookProject) about WorldSwap does not mean that I'm trying to gain popularity for the club, just trying to spread the  a little!

Cheers for reading,
Sarah

What The ?#!$* Is WorldSwap?

WorldSwap is a new, possibly the first (I have NO idea - I can't find any others!), deviantArt swap club, the point being that deviants submit their postal address as a note to us (privacy guaranteed) and at the end of the month they receive another address in return. The address will be that of a deviant on the other side of the world (who also submitted their address). The deviants make up a parcel, the parcel will be a set sized box with 3 set items (don't worry nothing expensive - a photo, handwritten letter/doodle & homemade mix cd), and post it to the deviant whose address they received.

The point of this is that these days everybody lacks receiving traditional snail mail, we all know how cool it is when you actually receive something meaningful, and what's cooler then having something interesting with a personal touch sent from some crazy deviant on the other side of the world!

WorldSwap is currently under development, although address note submissions are being accepted, first active month being February meaning at the end of February deviants with submitted addresses will receive their matches address, WorldSwap will run every month no matter how many addresses are received.

i know what people mean when they say it cost so much to send something by snail mail now. i have a freedom of speech project on the go, i sent out like 20 journals or something, but i never did get any back because i guess it got so expensive to send that no one bothered anymore, i wish i knew who had them so that some how form person to person i could get them back one way or another. so after knowing that the big journals weren't gonna work, i designed and printed a smaller journal called the minibooklet, JR. it's small enough to fit in a standard small size envelope, only one person fills it out, and sends it back, then gets it posted online. check it out sometime, [link] or note me if you're interested.

It's up to you whether or not you want to do it - I have to say though, it only costs me NZ$4, which is the same as... a coffee and nothing's cheap in New Zealand!
:iconrawimage:
Believe it or not, but sending a package from germany to new zealand would cost me friggin 37 euro which are about 69 nzd! I'm participating the ~sketchbookproject and I'm happy I'm not the poor fellar who has to send it back to the US :S
I love the idea, but it doesn't work for me :[
